Discolored Water Notice

Published: 3/21/25

Please be advised that our office has received several calls regarding discolored water and minerals/sediment in their water in the areas of George Street in Charles Town, County Green and Samuel Street areas.  Our staff has been investigating these complaints and immediately began flushing hydrants this morning to flush the water system.

Our review of the system indicates that the completion of the installation of a wall in a basin at the Water plant yesterday may have resulted in a storage tank elevation being lowered which resulted in some settled minerals and sediment being pulled into the distribution system.  This potentially led to the minerals being introduced into services and ultimately discoloration of the water.  Chloramine levels are in compliance therefore there is no requirement for a Boil Water Advisory at this time.

Customers experiencing cloudy or discolored water can try leaving taps open in a bathtub or sink for 20 minutes using COLD water.  It is important not to run hot water, however, as that would fill the building’s water heater with water that contains sediments.

After following the guidance above, if the problem persists, please contact us directly so that we can address the issue at your location, (304) 725-2316 or info@ctubwv.com
