Change in Corrosion Control Treatment at the CTUB Water Treatment Plant

Published: 3/12/26

The Charles Town Utility Board (CTUB) public water system, (PWS) ID WV3301905, would like to inform our customers of an upcoming change to the corrosion control treatment used in our public water system.

Beginning on Monday, March 23, 2026, we will transition from a zinc orthophosphate-based corrosion inhibitor to a polyphosphate blend. This adjustment is part of our ongoing efforts to optimize water quality, maintain regulatory compliance and enhance the protection of our water distribution system.

Polyphosphate is widely used in drinking water treatment to help reduce corrosion, minimize scale buildup and maintain water clarity throughout the distribution system. This change has been carefully evaluated to ensure it continues to meet all applicable State and Federal drinking water standards.

During the transition period, some customers may notice temporary changes in their water, including possible “cloudy” or slightly hazy appearance. This condition is typically aesthetic in nature and does not pose a health concern. However, if you experience cloudy water or any other unusual water quality concerns, we encourage you to contact our office promptly so that our staff can investigate and respond appropriately.

Our team is committed to ensuring the continued safety and reliability of your drinking water. If you have any questions about this change or would like additional information, please contact us at 304-725-2316 or chutzler@ctubwv.com.
